Talking Stick

Benjamin's class at school had a Harvest Celebration before Thanksgiving. They spent several days learning about Native Americans and some of their traditions. One was the Talking Stick. When someone holds the Talking Stick they are supposed to say something for which they are thankful. The children sat in a circle and passed the stick around. Some children were thankful for things like their family, friends, pets, etc. When it was Benjamin's turn, he sat up on his knees and with great confidence said, "I am thankful that a long, long time ago..."

I thought surely he was going to say something very thoughtful and profound about the Native Americans or the Pilgrims or something!

"...we had triangle work at school," he continued.
