Benjamin was hanging out on the toilet, as he often does, and called me in for “help, help” as he often does. It turned out he didn’t need any help but you could see the little wheels turning in his mind. Finally, after much thought, he announced, “Boys have penises. I have a penis and John Stephen has a penis and Daddy has a penis. You don’t have one, Mommy. Girls don’t have penises.”
Just stating the facts, I suppose. Then he did some more thinking and the question finally came, “What do girls have?”
“Vaginas,” I told him. “Girls have vaginas.”
And then he added, “And they’re weird!”
“Weird, what’s weird about it?” I asked, trying not to laugh. Really I wanted to hear just what he was going to come up with.
“That’s weird. Girls have computers. Hee hee hee.”
